Spinal decompression is a non-surgical procedure that involves stretching and manually adjusting the spine in a comfortable and safe setting. The patient lays down on a table for a specific amount of time as a device helps stretch out the spine. At Sanders Chiropractic and Wellness, we use spinal decompression to help relieve pain in the lower back or neck for patients without the use of surgery.
More often than not, people will decide to go through surgery in response to debilitating back pain without considering therapy and non-surgical options first. While there are conditions where surgery is the most effective treatment option, many cases only need therapy or non-surgical chiropractic treatment. Fortunately, we can provide patients the non-surgical treatment they need to relieve pain. One such treatment is spinal decompression, which helps to treat:
- Bulging discs
- Herniated discs
- Pinched Nerves
- Degenerating discs
- Spinal issues
Spinal decompression creates a negative pressure within the discs that can help reposition the disc material. People may not realize that the spine can greatly influence other areas of the body. Since the spine is the highway of the body, any issues in the spine can cause greater issues with one’s overall health. If the discs in the spine are misaligned, bulging, herniated or damaged, then the individual may experience more than just soreness.
With back, neck or spine issues, even the simple act of sitting down becomes a painful chore. In some cases, spinal decompression may not be enough to completely treat the issue. We will also recommend other forms of therapy following the spinal decompression. At Sanders Chiropractic and Wellness, we customize treatment for each patient. During the first consultation, we will take the patient’s health history, the patient’s current state of health, allergies and insurance information into account before developing a treatment plan.
For many patients who receive surgery at another location, physical therapy or spinal decompression are necessary to help the recovery process. In these cases, we may use spinal decompression as a treatment for a patient post-surgery. Attempting to treat damaged or bulging discs requires more than medication or a massage. Patients do not need to worry about intensive surgeries or excessive pain since spinal decompression utilizes simple traction and body positioning. Patients will typically wear a harness that we attach to the table which provides the necessary traction. Patients can relax during treatment and will not feel pain.
Our team of professionals has the knowledge and skill necessary to keep patients safe and comfortable during the treatment. While we may not continue spinal decompression after a certain point, the patient may continue physical therapy exercises at home and after the initial treatment. By keeping up this treatment regimen, the patient will experience long-term health and a life free of the pain that required treatment in the first place.
We understand that patients may have questions or concerns about spinal decompression and we are happy to address them. We want each patient to understand the procedure and have a firm grasp of what the treatment will entail. This way, patients will be able to feel comfortable with the treatment process.
With this in mind, we are happy to answer any questions that a patient may have before beginning the procedure. If you are interested in scheduling an appointment or have a question about spinal decompression treatment, give us a call at 1-801-326-4131.
