A Spinal Adjustment Can Help to Minimize Fibromyalgia Pain

For those suffering from fibromyalgia, it may seem like there is no relief in sight but a spinal adjustment may help. This debilitating condition can make it difficult for a person to have a normal life. With constant fatigue, muscle tension and pain, many victims find it impossible to work or even take care of things around the house. Remaining in bed or on the couch may be the only way to go through life for those suffering from this condition.

Professionals are still conducting research to determine what the exact cause of fibromyalgia is and this makes finding the right treatment even more difficult. Fortunately, we find that our patients often experience relief while under our care.

WHAT IS FIBROMYALGIA?
As a condition, there is still much to be learned about fibromyalgia. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC, finds that around 4 million adults face the impact of fibromyalgia in the U.S. on a regular basis. While men and women both struggle with the condition, women tend to receive a diagnosis of fibromyalgia more frequently. The typical age range for it to begin taking effect is around 19 and the rate of occurrence remains the same throughout adulthood, meaning that adults of all ages can be victim to this condition.

HOW DOES IT IMPACT A PERSON’S LIFE?
The intense symptoms of fibromyalgia can impact virtually all areas of life. Some of the symptoms include muscle tenderness, stiffness and pain, and changes to memory, sleep, and mood.

The greatest impact tends to be in levels of tension, soreness and pain, along with constant fatigue suffered by many victims. This can be difficult to live with and will typically result in a person needing to change their entire life, at least temporarily.

WHY A SPINAL ADJUSTMENT CAN EASE THE SYMPTOMS
Many of the conditions associated with fibromyalgia are reasons patients visit our office for a spinal adjustment. These include:

  • Sciatica
  • Inflammation (Especially around the shoulders and hips)
  • Tension headaches

When we adjust the spine, we are moving it into alignment. Keep in mind that the spine is a superhighway for the body with the nerves running through it. If the vertebrae are not in the correct position, nerves can become pinched or at a minimum, obstructed. By moving the spine back into alignment, we make it possible for things to move freely throughout the body, which will reduce and eliminate many problems associated with fibromyalgia.

As a result, many subsequent conditions are either eliminated or minimized. This is often the case with fibromyalgia. In fact, some patients have reported that chiropractic care has been more effective for treating the condition than medications and even shots.
